Hello, my name is Dan Brown, and I'm the head fly-casting instructor and guide for the residents and guests of Trout Haven Retreat. Whether you're an experienced angler or a person who is interested in an introduction to the exciting sport of fly-fishing, treating yourself to patient casting instruction and a guided trip is the perfect choice for you. Contrary to popular belief, gaining basic casting and fly angling skills is not an intimidating or lengthy process. For years, I've kept a couple of simple goals in mind while working with my clients: to greatly reduce the learning curve while providing anglers a productive and successful day on the water.
Within a few hours, you will learn both the basic cast and roll cast, understand basic stream entomology (the life cycle and identification of bugs that trout regularly eat), fly selection, surface and subsurface tactics, and how to "read" the water. I also host half and full day guided trips on the Kinnickinnic and Rush Rivers in west-central Wisconsin, as well as the Whitewater River in southeast Minnesota.
All necessary equipment, such as waders, flies, rods and reels is provided at no additional cost. I've had the good fortune to share my passion for fly-fishing with appearances on ESPN Outdoors, the Outdoor Life Network, Minnesota Bound and the KSTP TV Channel 5 Morning Show. I look forward to sharing what I know with you.
To book a 4-hour session on Knapp Creek, or to arrange for fishing on other regional trout water, call me at 651-465-5407.
